Mountain Majesties Paper Pumpkin Alternative Card #3

 Hi Crafting Friend,

The Mountain Majesties kit delivered a breathtaking array of watercolor-style mountain scenes, rustic sentiments, and outdoor-inspired embellishments. But if you're like me, you only want to make one of each of the standard card designs. Enter the gatefold card – a simple yet elegant alteration that transforms one of the card bases into something interactive and eye-catching.

Let’s explore how to turn one of the Mountain Majesties card bases into a gatefold masterpiece.

🌄 What is a Gatefold Card?

A gatefold card opens from the center, with two side flaps that meet in the middle—like opening a pair of barn doors. It offers a dramatic presentation and gives you extra space to showcase layers, sentiments, and embellishments in a more dynamic way.

This is the third and final alternative card for the Mountain Majesties Paper Pumpkin Kit that I'll be posting because the new kit will be shipping soon. Let's play!

CARD BASE:

  1. Thick Basic White cardstock - 4 1/4" X 11" scored and folded at 2 1/8" & 6 3/8" on the long side. When you fold both flaps inward, they should meet neatly in the center to form the gatefold. Burnish with a bone folder to crease the folds crisply. This ensures the flaps stay closed and open smoothly when desired.

CARD FRONT:

  1. Cut the card base on the score line and set aside half of it for another use.
  2. On the remaining half, using sponge daubers, ink the edges in the matching colors. Petal Pink, Lost Lagoon and Mossy Meadow were used for the card shown.
  3. Mask off the mountains and stamp a radiating sun using Daffodil Delight. The one used for this card is from the Kinda Eclectic Stampin' Up! stamp set. If you don't have a stamp, punch a circle (1 3/8" - 1 1/2" in size) out of a 4 1/2" square piece of computer paper.
  4.  Position the paper so the circle is where you want it. Be sure the mountain is below the area or mask it to prevent the yellow ink from getting on it. Using a Blending Brush and Daffodil Delight ink, apply the ink inside the punched circle to form the center of the sun. (as shown below) Draw the rays using either a Stampin' Blend or Stampin' Write marker in Daffodil Delight.
  5. Stamp the birds using Basic Gray.
  6. Ink the various layers of cardstock and vellum using the matching ink colors and sponge daubers.
  7. Add Dimensionals and/or Mini Dimensionals to the reverse side of the layers and adhere them to the card front. Preplan the placement of the Dimensionals so they don't show through the vellum and they are not stacked. If the dimensionals are stacked, the card may be too thick to go through the machine. It will then have to be hand cancelled by the post office when you mail it and that costs extra.
  8. Adhere the card front to the left flap of the gatefold.
  9. Decorate the right flap and inside of the gatefold if desired.
