Little Dreamers, Not Just For Babies, Graduation Card
Hi Crafting Friend,
I needed a graduation card, but didn't have a graduation stamp set. It was time to get creative! With inspiration from Brenda Quintana and the Color Throwdown Challenge #789, I successfully created a nice graduation card. The Color Throwdown Challenge required the use of red, navy and gold with any neutrals necessary. Blueberry Bushel isn't quite Navy, but it was close enough for me.
The card base is Real Red cut to 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" scored on the long side at 4 1/4" then folded and burnished to lay flat.
The Blueberry Bushel Glorious Gingham DSP* is 3 X 5 1/2" and adhered to the center of the card front.
The insert (not shown) is Basic White cut to 4 X 5 1/4" with a 3/4 X 5 1/4" strip of the Blueberry Bushel Gingham adhered on one side, but the strip isn't necessary if you don't want it.
The graduation cap is cut from Basic Black with the middle sized, square Stylish Shapes die. I marked the center on the reverse side by marking an X with a pencil from corner to corner and poking (that's a technical term 😉) a hole with the Take Your Pick Tool through the center where the lines cross.
The Dark Wild Wheat Blends marker was used to color a piece of Baker's Twine about 5" long for the tassel. (don't forget to allow about 15 minutes drying time) Brenda has a video showing how to make her card (Happy Little Things Graduation Card - Qbees Quest) and the portion where she shows how to make the tassel is about 21 minutes and 15 seconds into it. I liked the way it looked so that's how I did it. A black brad* was used to hold the tassel on the cap. Once the graduation cap was complete, it was adhered with Black Mini Dimensionals.
From the Little Dreamers* stamp set, use the "Congratulations on your new little one" sentiment, but put a piece of tape over the portion of it that you do not want to stamp, then ink it and remove the tape before stamping on a 4 X 1/2" strip of Basic White. Adhere it to the bottom of the card front with white Mini Dimensionals.
A bow made with Gold & Vanilla 3/8" Satin Edged Ribbon* and adhered with a glue dot, and 3 large gold Brushed Metallic Adhesive Backed Dot* finished it off.
Update: The day after I posted this card I ran across the Gold Celebrations Specialty DSP* and thought it would make a fabulous addition to it, so I added a 5/8 X 5 1/2" strip on each side of the gingham with tiny dots of glue behind the gold confetti. I really like the way it looks. In my opinion, it makes the card! What do you think? Let me know in the comments and if you like it, please share!
